WUE was a huge deciding factor, if not the most important factor in where I decided to go to college. I really wanted to go to school in Colorado because of my passion for skiing, but as I looked at each school, I realized how much extra money I would have to pay just because I would be an out of state student. Because of WUE, I was able to go to Colorado State University without paying full out of state tuition. CSU has been the perfect school and experience for me. I love being an out of state student and truly feel that I got an experience here that I could not have gotten else where. CSU allowed me to receive a great education, but also gave me the opportunity to design my own education experience without having to worry as much about the costs of tuition. I also gained the opportunity to study abroad. If I had gone to an out of state school and had to pay full tuition, I never would have been able to afford to participate in Semester at Sea, and it was a life changing experience that I will always remember. Without my WUE scholarship, I would not have had the amazing college experience I did

WUE was the deciding factor when I was figuring out where to go to college. My WUE scholarship made attending CSU possible, and also gave me the opportunity to design my own educational experience without having to worry as much about the costs of tuition. Thanks to WUE, I was able to afford the “Semester at Sea” study abroad program; it was a life-changing experience that I will always take with me, and the skills I gained there will help me in my future career.

WUE has been an incredible blessing in my educational career. I grew up in Corvallis, Oregon. WUE, however, allowed me to pursue a college education in Colorado. I have genuinely never been happier or more successful in my life. Without WUE, I would not have had such a beneficial, life-changing collegiate experience!

I have dreamed of being a veterinarian since I was a little girl. WUE has helped me to be able to pay for admission at Colorado State University and allowed me the opportunity to work with professors and grad students at one of the country's most prestigious veterinary schools. If it weren't for the WUE scholarship I would not have been able to come to CSU and would not have had all the wonderful experiences I have had.

I had always wanted to attend an out of state University and experience something new for my college years. The WUE made this possible and I am now in my second semester of my junior year at Colorado State University. I am studying Family and Consumer Science Education and could not be more excited about the future. I hope to eventually go on to teach in an inner city school district. My education here at CSU has been incredibly enriching and I have learned so much about myself by being able to head out of state for college. I am forever grateful to the WUE scholarship for helping me shape a future that I am incredibly excited for. Thank you!!!!!

It has been the sole thing that has allowed me to attend CSU each year. Without it I would be in my home state studying, and cant speak for what that experience would have been in comparison. WUE was quite important.

There is no way I could have afforded to go to a school in Colorado which I had been wanting to do for a while. WUE made it financially possible. I am able to meet new people and experience a new place to live.

Without the WUE it wouldn't have been a practical choice for me to go to school out of state. While I still miss home, living in a place and forcing myself into new situations has been the most valuable experience of my life. I've been able to see new perspectives, make great new friends, and have gained a better view on myself. I can't thank WICHE enough for this opportunity and would encourage anyone to apply and try something new.

The WUE gave the opportunity to attend Western Washington University, the school I had my heart set on all of my senior year. I couldn't picture myself anywhere else. This school has a very well-known college of education and I knew that would be important to getting a career in teaching. Receiving the WUE has opened a very important, special door for me and I am so grateful for that! Laurel Tanner

Western Oregon University, Rehabilitation Counseling with the Deaf

Western Oregon Universty boasts a long history of providing graduate degrees in Rehabilitation Counseling with the Deaf. There are very few programs nationwide that prepare students to provide rehabilitation services to clients who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deaf blind. And each year up to half of our students are a part of the WRGP program. Over the years we have had students who hail from each of the participating western states, and most of them go back to those states with their graduate degrees to provide services to this underserved population. Being a member of WRGP has allowed these students to attend our small program in Oregon. Thank you!
