The WCET Annual Meeting brings together higher education professionals to share advances in digital learning practices and to explore emerging policy challenges facing institutions and organizations today.
It can be difficult to get the attention of a college student. Professors can always connect with students in class. However, advisors and administrators have few means to command attention, especially if calling, texting, emailing or using the postal service aren’t successful. The ability to use holds to prompt a student to take an action is one of the few resources in an institution’s toolkit. Recent research reveals the ubiquity of this practice, but also the limitations. Members of WICHE’s Western Academic Leadership Forum (Forum) and Western Alliance of Community College Academic Leaders (Alliance) are invited to attend a one hour webinar to hear about the latest research on administrative holds policies and practices at the state, system, and institution-level from panelists from the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), Education Commission of the States (ECS), Ithaka S+R, and National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO).

Community colleges across the nation are experiencing similar challenges: decreased enrollments, state funding challenges, and streamlining pathways for degree attainment and transfer. The pandemic has changed postsecondary education – likely in permanent ways. Digital learning, while certainly important before, has become a ubiquitous concept on campuses across the country. New technologies and research have identified ways to support students and drive better outcomes for their educational journey.
Establishing and improving effective digital learning resources (if done well) requires investment. With digital learning being a main tool in responding to the new normal of the pandemic, using available federal relief funds to invest in these resources and technologies can be a key strategy for institutions.
This webinar will bring together experts on federal policy and digital learning, as well as exemplar institutions who are taking advantage of the unique opportunities afforded by federal resources to move their campuses forward.
Students from the WICHE region will share their reasons for attending community colleges, how community college has helped them and their communities, and why community colleges are important to the future of higher education.

The OERwest Network convening is from April 20-21, 2022, in Denver, Colorado. The two-day convening will provide an opportunity for participants to network with other OER leaders across the west, engage in working sessions focused on advancing and scaling OER, and listen to engaging speakers. Participants will develop action plans for advancing equity in OER, tailored to each participant’s institutions, systems, or state landscape.
