Undergraduate Enrollment

Undergraduate enrollment decreased by 6% in the past decade, propelled by the significant decreases that occurred since 2019. Enrollment trends varied widely by sector, as all the decreases in the past decade occurred at two-year colleges, while enrollments increased at public and private four-year universities in the region.

Notes: Data are for undergraduates at two- and four-year degree-granting, Title IV-eligible, public and private nonprofit institutions. Sectors are classified according to the 2021 Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Private nonprofit enrollments include two- and four-year institutions.
