Student and Graduate Testimonials
Here's what students and graduates are saying about WICHE's Student Exchange Programs
"Without WUE I would never have been able to support myself financially at Colorado State University, where I am currently a sophomore earning a degree in fish, wildlife, and conservation biology. CSU is recognized nationally for its wildlife biology program (my concentration). Research and stewardship of our natural world are my passions in life, and being able to attend a school with a program that so perfectly meets my needs and interests is a dream come true, not to mention a large step in the right direction. Not only does CSU provide me with education in the classroom, but I have enjoyed a variety of networking and research opportunities, both in the laboratory and in the field. None of this would have been possible without WUE. I owe my future career to you."
— Anna, New Mexico resident, Class of 2013, Colorado State University, Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology
"Without WUE I would not be where I am today. My parents wouldn't have been able to afford CSU, so therefore I would not have been able to attend. I am very grateful for this program. I love CSU and am so glad that I had the opportunity to attend this fine school, thanks to WUE."
— Sydney, California resident, Class of 2014, Colorado State University, Civil Engineering
"WUE has made attending my choice school possible, enabling me to attend a university that offers the programs and postgraduate opportunities I need. WUE has helped me bring my dream of becoming a large animal veterinarian one step closer. It helps me to pay for the education required to become a professional in my chosen field and do the best possible job in that field."
— Taryn, California resident, Class of 2014, Colorado State University, Microbiology
"WUE has helped me to achieve my academic goals by allowing me to study out of state at a more reasonable price. Part of the college experience for me has been the tremendous shift to an entirely different location. It has helped me to grow as a person. I am very grateful to WUE, as it has made attending Colorado State University more realizable for me."
— Christopher, California resident, Class of 2011, Colorado State University, Natural Resource Recreation & Tourism: Concentration on Global Tourism
"WUE helped to decrease the cost of tuition at Colorado State University, so that I am basically paying the same as in-state tuition. Colorado has one of the highest costs for higher education, but CSU has one of the top veterinarian schools in the country. Utah did not have a direct veterinary program or the other benefits of CSU. By being able to attend CSU as an undergraduate, I know that what I am learning gives me a better chance to acheive my dream of becoming an exotic animal veterinarian! I am so grateful for the help that WUE has given me, and I hope the program continues so that others are able to achieve their dreams as well!"
— Annie, Utah resident, Class of 2010, Colorado State University, Biological Sciences
"I came to Colorado State because I am interested in veterinary medicine; Idaho does not have a vet school. WUE helped me to be able to afford a quality education in the my field of interest."
— Danielle, Idaho resident, Class of 2013, Colorado State University, Biological Science
"Without the Western Undergraduate Exchange, it would have been impossible for me to pursue an education at Colorado State University. The out-of-state tuition is too high, and my family's finances are insufficient to pay it. WUE allowed me to go the university of my choice. I am currently a freshman studying at CSU and very grateful to WUE for making it possible for me to be here. I hope that our legislators will continue to support WICHE and allow students like me to attend the institutions of their choice."
— Ian, resident, Class of 2014, Colorado State University,
"As a Montana resident, I could have stayed in state to study wildlife biology, but the state's lack of a veterinary school would have left me with few opportunities to gain the knowledge and experience I need to become a wildlife veterinarian. I preferred going to a college that had both of these options available to me. This, of course, raised the price of a college education. With WUE my college payments are now on a level that my mother and I can afford, and I can now access coursework and professionals that will prepare me for both wildlife management and veterinary medicine."
— Allyson, Montana resident, Class of 2014, Colorado State University, Wildlife Biology
"WUE has been an amazing help financially. Without it my chances of being able to attend Colorado State would be lessened considerably due to how expensive it is to study out-of-state. I'm so thankful for the opportunities the WUE has made available to me! I hope the program will continue long into the future and help other out-of-staters just like me."
— Anna, New Mexico resident, Class of 2014, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, English with a Concentration in Education
"I'm from Nevada, a state with only two universities, so I'd be very constricted if I wasn't able to attend an out-of state university. Attending college in Colorado has been an amazing experience, and it would not have been possible without WUE. I have a twin sister who is also studying at Colorado State University. My dad was recently diagnosed with a terminal illness that has created large medical expenses for my family. Without WUE there is no way my sister and I would be attending such a great university in Colorado."
— Jackie, Nevada resident, Class of 2013, Colorado State University, History, Communications Studies, and English (Language Concentration)
"WUE was the deciding factor when I was figuring out where to go to college. My WUE scholarship made attending CSU possible, and also gave me the opportunity to design my own educational experience without having to worry as much about the costs of tuition. Thanks to WUE, I was able to afford the “Semester at Sea” study abroad program; it was a life-changing experience that I will always take with me, and the skills I gained there will help me in my future career. "
— Katie, Oregon resident, Class of 2011, Colorado State University, Business Administration and Organizational Management
"WUE has been an incredible blessing in my educational career. I grew up in Corvallis, Oregon. WUE, however, allowed me to pursue a college education in Colorado. I have genuinely never been happier or more successful in my life. Without WUE, I would not have had such a beneficial, life-changing collegiate experience! "
— Malory, Oregon resident, Class of 2012, Colorado State University, Biomedical Science
"WUE made my undergraduate studies in civil engineering at CSU possible!"
— Jeffrey, Alaska resident, Class of 2012, Colorado State University, Civil engineering
"The WUE Scholarship has helped me achieve my academic goal of moving out of state to go to college. This has meant the world to me, as I have dreamed of going out of state for years. WUE is helping me achieve my goals because it enables me to be able to be here, in beautiful Colorado, studying what I love: zoology."
— Devyn, New Mexico resident, Class of 2014, Colorado State University, Zoology
"WUE was a key factor for me in deciding to come to Colorado for college. CSU’s College of Natural Resources is the perfect place to start my career in conservation, with numerous research opportunities through professors and associates. And, WUE’s given me the financial freedom and time to get involved in campus clubs and athletics, and focus on academics, instead of worrying about part-time jobs to help pay for school. WUE’s an amazing program, and I hope it continues to support students for years to come. Thank you."
— Tessa, California resident, Class of 2014, Colorado State University, Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology
