Student and Graduate Testimonials
Here's what students and graduates are saying about WICHE's Student Exchange Programs
"WUE has been incredibly important to me for so many reasons. It not only allowed me to get away and experience a new region and a new environment, it also allowed me to do this for very little money out of pocket. It has truly been a gift, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity."
— Kasey, California resident, Class of 2015, Montana Tech, Biological Sciences/Occupational Safety and Health
"WUE has helped me to attend the college that I wanted to, in order to get the degree I want. Many colleges in Oregon do not have paralegal studies. Lewis Clark State College did, but the out-of-state tuition is rather high. WUE cuts the tuition way down, which definitively helps. It has always been my dream to study law, so I am going for a four-year degree in paralegal, with a minor in pre-law."
— Malinda, Oregon resident, Class of 2015, Lewis Clark State College, Paralegal
"WUE has helped me to be able to go to an out-of-state school. Given how expensive it is to go to college out of state, I wouldn't have been able to go to otherwise."
— Cali, Washington resident, Class of 2015, Lewis-Clark State College, Nursing
"I'm from Washington. I lived in a small farming community that is seven miles from the Idaho border. I am currently enrolled at Lewis-Clark State College with plans on transfering to the University of Idaho because I can finish out my degree there. WUE has made it possible for me to attend college. It will also follow me to the U of I and allow me to receive close to in-state tuition there. I have to pay for tuition out of my pocket. Without WUE I don't believe that affording college would be possible for me."
— Patrick, Washington resident, Class of 2015, Lewis-Clark State College, Civil Engineering
"I lived in Alaska for about eight years, but Idaho was my original home state. I had considered staying in Alaska because the out-of-state tuition is so expensive. But applying for college through WUE allowed me to come back to Idaho. It also allowed me to attend the school I wanted and go into the medical field. WUE helped me save a lot of money this first year and will continue to help me for the coming years."
— Katrinia, Alaska resident, Class of 2015, Lewis-Clark State College, Medical Diagnostic Imaging
"This exchange has allowed me to go to an out-of-state college without having to pay out-of-state tuition. It helps both my parents and me to be able to afford to send me to college and will help me to be able to graduate with a degree that will help support me."
— Kendra, Washington resident, Class of 2015, Lewis-Clark State College, Nursing
"The WUE program helped me make my goals a reality. Thanks to the program, I was able to attend a university with the undergraduate degree I wanted. I really needed all the financial help I could get, and this program came through for me. It helped minimize the cost of going to college. I genuinely thank the WUE program for giving me the opportunity to broaden my horizons. "
— Bertha, Hawai'i resident, Class of 2012, Montana Tech of the University of Montana, Healthcare Informatics
"WUE has made my experience of living and learning in another state much more attainable due to the lower costs of tuition. I was able to go to my first-choice college, paying a mere fraction of what I would have had to pay without it."
— Rowan, Colorado resident, Class of 2013, Montana Tech of the University of Montana, Environmental Engineer
"Without receiving support through WUE, there is no way that I would ever have been able to attend a university. With the help of this program, I will be able to obtain my goal of designing and testing armor."
— Steven, Arizona resident, Class of 2015, Montana Tech of the University of Montana, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering
"Without WUE I wouldn't be going to school in Utah. Period. The money that WUE has saved my family has allowed me to attend the University of Utah for my first semester and will continue to allow me to do so for the next three and a half years. The mechanical engineering program at the University of Utah is fantastic, and I wouldn't have been able to receive the same education I am now, while living in such a desirable state."
— Kevin, Oregon resident, Class of 2015, University of Utah, Mechanical Engineering
"I got great grades in high school, and I participated in a program that allowed me to receive my associate's degree with my high school diploma. I was the first one to achieve that at my high school, so I figured getting a scholarship somewhere would be no problem. But the only scholarship I got was based on academics; it was small and only applied to one semester. WUE, on the other hand, cut my tuition in half! Without it I would have had to move back home and go to a school that did not have my preferred major. I am very thankful for WUE!"
— Jessica, Colorado resident, Class of 2012, University of Utah, Philosophy major, Psychology minor
"WUE made dream come true: a future career in geological engineering! WUE has been a huge help financially."
— Melissa, Colorado resident, Class of 2015, Montana Tech, Geological Engineering
"Although I have been granted funding (tuition waiver) for two of the three semesters I have had so far here at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, I know that if I am not granted funding I can still afford to stay here and pay tuition. I am the type of student who cannot afford out-of-state (or private), tuition and WUE has allowed me to study in a program that is nationally competitive at a reduced price! It's wonderful."
— Hannah, Arizona resident, Class of 2012, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Second Language Studies
"Without WUE I would not be able to attend Colorado State University. WUE has been of essential assistance in my ability to afford my education. I love attending CSU and know I would not be able to do it without WUE."
— Amy, California resident, Class of 2013, Colorado State University, Business Marketing
"WUE has gifted me with independence, wisdom, and happiness, and I will be forever grateful for the rest of my life. WUE took me to Fort Collins to attend Colorado State University. It was no more than a fantasy when I applied: I knew my family (with four students) could not afford out-of-state tuition. WUE was the sole factor that flew me over the Rocky Mountains to attend my dream university and provided the opportunity to experience life. My time in Colorado has opened my eyes to the world and changed my fuzzy academic path into a distinct and inspired highway to success. I have WUE to thank for that!"
— Sarah, Oregon resident, Class of 2013, Colorado State University, Liberal Arts
