Student and Graduate Testimonials
Here's what students and graduates are saying about WICHE's Student Exchange Programs
"WUE has helped me attend one of the best schools for nursing. Nursing is my dream career, and with the help of the WUE, I can make my dreams come true! "
— Jessica, Montana resident, Class of 2017, Idaho State University, Nursing
"I always had ambitions of furthering my education and participating in football after graduating from high school. Being a graduate from an Alaskan high school made it difficult to choose a school that best fit me, because out-of-state tuition was high. With the help of WUE, I was able to pick a university that fit my needs on the field and in the classroom. I’ve been given the best chance to succeed in life."
— Josh, Alaska resident, Class of 2014, Mayville State University, History Education and Physical Education
"I've wanted to study in Montana since high school, but out-of-state tuition made that difficult. When my family learned about the WUE program, a lot of the burden was taken away. It also acts as an additional motivator to do my best in my classes, to keep up my GPA so that I remain qualified for the WUE discount. I am very indebted for the opportunity I have been given by WUE."
— Brenna, Washington resident, Class of 2016, University of Montana Western, Mathematics Education
"If it weren't for WUE, I don't know how I would afford college -- especially out-of-state tuition, since it's so expensive. The fact that people are investing their time and money to help me be successful is overwhelming. WUE has helped me realize that I want to pursue a career in student affairs and higher education so that I can encourage students to pursue college studies and be successful too. So many students see furthering their education as a foreign concept and I want to help them break that limiting perception. WUE, along with the support of everyone around me, makes me realize that truly anything is possible."
— Kevin, Nevada resident, Class of 2014, Northern Arizona University, Business Management & Administration
"WUE made it possible for me to attend Northern Arizona University where I stayed on track for four years and graduated with a bachelor's degree in environmental science. If I had had to pay the full out-of-state tuition, I don't think I would have been able to graduate in four years, nor stay focused on one major. I'm currently attending graduate school at the University of Arizona. WUE was a determining factor in helping me stay out West for my undergraduate and graduate years."
— Chase, New Mexico resident, Class of 2010, Northern Arizona University, Environmental Science
"When I was looking at schools, I found the WUE program. It was amazing to me that it was cheaper to go out-of-state on a WUE scholarship than it was to stay in state in California. Without WUE, I would be in debt for a long time. My parents and I are so grateful for this program, and I highly recommend it. WUE is a great deal; I'm getting a good education at a reasonable price! I attend Northern Arizona University and I love it. It's the perfect distance from home; I can go home if I need too, but it's far enough away to get the college experience of living on my own. This experience has taught me how to be self-sufficient and responsible. I have worked hard and gotten involved with different organizations on campus that have enhanced my knowledge in chemistry and social problems around the world."
— Amanda, California resident, Class of 2013, Northern Arizona University, Chemistry
"I was not going to attend a university because tuition and fees were just too expensive. WUE program gave me access to a less expensive education and an experience that I will always take with me. I am a first-generation college student, and my family is proud. Thank you WUE!"
— Tara, California resident, Class of 2013, Northern Arizona University, Psychology
"WUE has helped me achieve my academic goals by giving me the opportunity to attend an institution outside of my home state. Without it, I couldn't afford to go to an institution with such an amazing dental hygiene program. Thanks WUE!"
— Jessica, Nevada resident, Class of 2015, Idaho State University, Dental Hygiene
"The California Maritime Academy was the only institution on the West Coast where I could pursue my career dreams. No other college around Seattle offers even a remotely similar program. My family couldn't afford to send me to Cal Maritime without the immense help that we have received from the WUE scholarship. Thanks to WUE, I've been able to focus on my studies and have been very successful at Cal Maritime. Thank you! "
— Lauren, Washington resident, Class of 2013, California Maritime Academy, Marine Transportation
"WUE has helped me achieve my academic goals by making it easier to attend Idaho State University. I am from Montana and none of the colleges had the program I was looking for. Idaho State University did, but without WUE, the financial burden would have been heavy and that alone would have made it difficult for me to complete my education. WUE has helped me get one step closer to my professional goal of becoming a speech pathologist."
— Paige, Montana resident, Class of 2016, Idaho State University, Speech Pathology
"Going to school out-of-state was never an option until I learned about the WUE program. I am originally from California, but wanted to go to school in a different state. WUE makes going to college more affordable, which has given me the optimism I needed to earn a college degree. Without WUE, I would have not been able to attend Northern Arizona University where I have made great connections that will allow me to pursue my dream career."
— Lane, California resident, Class of 2012, Northern Arizona University, Political Science with a minor in Biology
"I'm a student athlete, so at any time you can find me in class, practicing, traveling for competition or studying. This does not allow much time to work. WUE helped me lower the cost of my education at Idaho State University. Because I don't have to work, I can focus all my efforts on my studies. I love all the new opportunities that going to an out-of-state school has offered me. I was recently accepted into ISU's nursing program and will be starting classes this spring. Without WUE, I would have had to work and wouldn't have had as much time to focus on my academics, and may not have been accepted into their nursing program! Thank you WUE, for all you help! "
— Audrey, Washington resident, Class of 2015, Idaho State University, Nursing
"Being the oldest of three children active in sports and dance meant that going to school at home in California wouldn't be affordable without a scholarship. Thanks to WICHE's WUE, I'm able to go to a school I love for less than what I would have paid in my home state! The reduced tuition helps take some stress off of my parents and me. Without WUE, I wouldn't have the opportunities and experiences I've had over the last year and a half. I really hope that this program continues so that more students can benefit. Thanks to WUE, my future's off to a great start."
— Anna, California resident, Class of 2015, Northern Arizona University, Journalism
"The WUE program made going to an out of state school financially viable for me and my family. In high school, I knew that I wanted to attend a university outside of my home state and give myself the opportunity to have new experiences. Reaching outside of my comfort zone to go to school in Arizona was one of the best choices I made. It exposed me to new ways of thinking and to different people from different cultures. Above all however, it made me appreciate where I came from and the values and practices that are important to me. "
— Amy, California resident, Class of 2012, Northern Arizona University, International Hospitality Management
"WUE gave me the chance to study in the mainland. I lived in Hawaii all my life and thought I'd stay in Hawaii for college. When I learned about WUE, I realized that I could go to college in another state--I had many more options than I initially thought. The reduced WUE tuition was affordable, and many of my fellow students from all over the West were using WUE at NAU."
— Kristal, Hawai'i resident, Class of 2010, Northern Arizona University, Chemistry Education
