Student and Graduate Testimonials
Here's what students and graduates are saying about WICHE's Student Exchange Programs
"I’ll be the first member of my family to receive a college degree. Without the reduced tuition available through WUE, it would have cost over $100K to attend college. I have learned so much in my first semester at Central Washington University. I hold tremendous gratitude for the WUE program. WUE is a worthy investment; it's allowed me to improve my life, and I feel called to give back to the community in honor of the assistance extended to me. Thank you!"
— Kelsey, Oregon resident, Class of 2014, Central Washington University, Undeclared
"Serving as a Cadet at California Maritime Academy has been life-changing. My peers drive me to always 'do better' and I’ve gained hands-on experience, cruising through the Pacific Ocean on the school’s 500-foot training ship, The Golden Bear. Now in my senior year, I’m in charge of the Housing and Resident Life Program, serve as a leader in the Corps of Cadets, participate in the Gold Medal Leadership Program, and am president of the Student Body Association. I am grateful to WICHE; WUE has helped me reach my full potential and become more than prepared for life beyond college."
— Sean, Washington resident, Class of 2011, California Maritime Academy, Global Studies and Maritime Affairs
"I'm enrolled at California Maritime Academy as a Hawaii resident. Without WUE, I'd have to delay my college aspirations for one year to gain in-state residency. Out-of-state tuition rates are astronomical and I’m grateful to have received reduced tuition through WUE. Getting a college education is just too important to put on hold, and WUE made it affordable now!"
— Drew, Hawai'i resident, Class of 2012, California Maritime Academy, Maritime Transportation
"WUE is awesome. Without it, I would not be able to afford college. WUE has helped me achieve my dreams and further my education so that can pursue my international career goals."
— Jeffrey, Washington resident, Class of 2013, California Maritime Academy, Global Studies and International Affairs
"I’d always dreamed of attending college out of state. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone, explore, and redefine myself. When I came across Western Washington University, I knew it was the perfect place for me. I applied and was accepted, but was extremely nervous about how I would afford tuition, until I was offered WUE. It allowed me to pursue my education in a setting where I am surrounded by positive people, invigorating academics, and a breath-taking natural environment. I now work in admissions at WWU and see firsthand how WUE allows students like me the opportunity to dream big!"
— Jilian, Utah resident, Class of 2012, Western Washington University, Sociology and Elementary Education
"WUE made attending Central Washington University affordable and I wouldn't have been able to go there without it. I’m now enrolled in their Psychology and Sociology program and look forward to helping others after I graduate."
— Travis, Colorado resident, Class of 2013, Central Washington University, Psychology and Sociology
"There were very few programs in Montana that offered Writing as a major. The WUE program was a huge help and gave me an affordable out-of-state option. I plan to continue my studies in Washington. The WUE program has made my dream career in writing possible!"
— Mary, Montana resident, Class of 2014, Writing Specialization, Central Washington University, Writing Specialization
"Without reduced WUE tuition, I would not have been able to afford college. Thank you! "
— Desi, Nevada resident, Class of 2014, Central Washington University, Undecided
"The WUE program has significantly helped me with my goal of becoming a teacher and in continuing my education. I am now able to go to my school of choice without the stress of figuring out how to pay for the out-of-state tuition. WUE has given me the opportunity to experience living and learning in a different state and in a place where I feel I can learn the most. I really appreciate the help WUE has given me -- without it, I could not afford such an experience. Thank you very much! "
— Leslie, California resident, Class of 2014, Music Education, Central Washington University, Music Education
"I was born and raised in Alaska. After graduation from high school, I wanted to travel and study outside of my home state, but I was discouraged by the high out-of-state tuition rates. After hearing about WUE, I began to look at western universities outside of Alaska. I am now enrolled at Central Washington University and thoroughly enjoying my educational experience and involvement with the Central Equestrian Team. This would not have been possible without WUE. I am so thankful for the wonderful opportunity I was given, and for CWU's participation in WUE!"
— Mary, Alaska resident, Class of 2014, Biology, Central Washington University, Biology
"As an Oregon resident from one of the many families that make too much money to qualify for financial aid but still struggle to pay for college, WUE meant that I could study in California as I had dreamed of, enroll at a college with a good business program, and take out minimal student loans. I can't even begin to describe how much the reduced tuition through WUE has meant for my family and me. I'll be forever indebted to the WUE program."
— Aften, Oregon resident, Class of 2012, California State University-East Bay, Business Administration, Accounting and Entrepreneurship
"The WUE program was the best thing that has happened to me! It opened doors to opportunities to go away for college outside of my home state of Hawaii. I never thought I’d be able to study out-of-state, due to my financial situation. WUE gave me opportunity to grow as a teen into a competent and independent adult with a college degree. WUE is a life-changer for anyone who wants to go away for college and grow as a person."
— Cal, Hawai'i resident, Class of 2014, California State University East Bay, Biology/Environmental Sciences
"WUE sparked my interest in high school because I was set on attending a school outside of Oregon. I opted for California State University, East Bay because I have family in the area. Out-of-state tuition is very expensive in California, and the reduced tuition was a relief for my parents who were putting multiple kids through college. As California budget cuts later increased, I saw fellow students struggle to pay out-of-state tuition because their home states weren't part of WUE. I am very grateful for the assistance. I‘ve since graduated and am waiting to enroll in law school."
— Derya, Oregon resident, Class of 2010, California State University, East Bay, Political Science
"WUE has greatly benefited me throughout my college career at New Mexico State University. Being a resident of Nevada, I would normally be expected to pay out-of-state tuition, but instead, I pay a reduced rate. Without WUE, I may not have been able to afford NMSU and achieve my goal of earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration. WUE allows students from many different Western states to attend NMSU, and I am grateful that it participates in the program!"
— Leslie, Nevada resident, Business administration, Class of 2012, New Mexico State University, Business Management
"I had my heart set on studying something to do with the environment, but neither of my home state of Nevada’s two universities offered programs that fit my interests. WUE allows me to pursue my education out of state…. I’m enrolled in one of the top undergrad environmental journalism programs in the country!”"
— Becky, Nevada resident, , Western Washington University, Environmental Journalism
