Student and Graduate Testimonials
Here's what students and graduates are saying about WICHE's Student Exchange Programs
"WUE has made paying for school easier. I am pursuing my degree in anthropology which is something I have wanted to do for my whole life!"
— Rose, Nevada resident, Class of 2018, Idaho State University, Anthropology
"WUE is the only way I am able to attend ISU which as one of the best bachelor’s program for dental hygiene on the West, which will allow me to be competitive in the job market once I graduate. A college education is essential to getting a good job and having a successful career, and WUE has allowed me to attain that education. Thank you!"
— Renae, California resident, Class of 2018, Idaho State University, Dental Hygiene
"I am so grateful to be paying reduced tuition thanks to the WUE program. It has made it possible for me to attend an out-of-state university that offered my major: a bachelor’s in dental hygiene. Not only has WUE made school affordable, but it’s also challenged me to work for my goals in a set time frame. I would not be where I am today without the financial help from WUE."
— Megan, Arizona resident, Class of 2017, Idaho State University, Dental Hygiene
"I am eternally grateful for WUE. It’s helped me attend a great institution with an excellent anthropology program. Without it, I would not have been able to afford my studies at Idaho State University and would have had to post-pone the completion of my degree. After I graduate, I plan to continue my work with museums and teach children about various topics in a museum setting and pursue graduate studies."
— Randi, Utah resident, Class of 2015, Idaho State University, Anthropology
"Before I heard about WUE, I was a full-time waitress working hard to survive in Irvine, California. I’d already given up my dreams of becoming an engineer. I would never have been able to attend or afford college if it weren’t for WUE. And studying at NMSU has opened up tremendous opportunities for me. I am serving on the elected body of the university’s student government as a representative of the College of Engineering. I also got to meet and interview with many of the alumni that are now working at major companies like Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Raytheon, and more. Within just my first year here, I have already built a large network that will help pave the way to my future success."
— Diane, California resident, Class of 2018, New Mexico State University, Chemical Engineering
"When I decided to pursue a career in audiology, I knew I was going to have to go out of state for school as there are no programs in Alaska. Even though I had no doubts that this was the right choice for me, I was not sure how the financial aspects would work out. It wasn't until I received notice about WUE that I knew I was going to be able to make it through school financially. WUE has been a huge blessing to me, and I am extremely grateful for this opportunity. WUE is giving me the chance to get the education I need so that someday I can return home and provide medical services to the people in my home state. Thank you so very much!"
— Caitie M., Alaska resident, Class of 2018, Idaho State University, Audiology
"Everyone can relate to the fact that college is extremely expensive, especially if you're paying out-of-state tuition. I have always wanted to attend a college out of my hometown and WUE has made paying for college easier. Thanks for this amazing opportunity to study at CSU East Bay. WUE is awesome!"
— Vivian, Oregon resident, Class of 2016, California State University, East Bay, Sociology
"When I began looking at colleges, it was obvious that financially, the smart choice would be to attend an in-state university. I applied for and was accepted to an institution in my home state. I was born and raised in Alaska, and I intend to return to my home state upon graduation to pursue my career in nursing. However, having never lived outside, I had never experienced some of the simple things that so many take for granted (marching bands, football games, pep rallies, concerts, and even road trips). Upon applying to Idaho State University and being granted the WUE discount, I suddenly had a choice that was not based on finances, but rather on where I wanted to be. I chose to attend ISU, and it was a fantastic decision. I absolutely love the school, the location, and the ability to have the life experiences that I desire, knowing that I am exactly where I should be. Enrolling at ISU would not have been possible without WUE, and I am forever grateful. "
— Alyson, Alaska resident, Class of 2018, Idaho State University, Nursing
"There were two things I wanted out of college. First, a degree in audiology. Second, a chance to leave home and become my own individual. WUE program allowed me to pursue both of these things without worrying about racking up an unruly amount of debt. The financial peace of mind WUE gave me allowed me to focus all my efforts on school. I am so thankful for WUE--I can't even begin to explain how essential it has been to my college experience. Without it, my college and life goals were unreachable. WUE granted me access to my dreams, and that is something I will cherish forever."
— Tiffany, Washington resident, Class of 2014, Idaho State University, Pre-Audiology
"WUE is much more than just an affordable college experience. WUE challenges me academically by setting guidelines to keep my discounted tuition. It also keeps me on track to graduate within four years. The higher academic standards required of WUE students motivate us to reach our goals."
— Camden, Hawai'i resident, Class of 2015, University of Colorado Denver, Pre-Med Biology and Public Health
"Without WUE, I would not have had the opportunity to attend a large university outside of my home state. I am currently in my first year and just applied to my baccalaureate program here at Idaho State University. Now I have the ability to be all that I can, without crippling my parents or myself with student loan debt, or taking away from my two younger siblings' educational opportunities. Without this program, I wouldn't have been able to achieve my life-long dream. "
— Grace, Nevada resident, Class of 2015, Idaho State University, Elementary Education with English Emphasis
"I have a B.S. in microbiology but wanted to enter the medical laboratory science field. I decided to withdraw money from my 401k in order to pay for expenses for the year of training/education needed to change fields. Thanks to the WICHE's Western Undergraduate Exchange, I can complete my educational and career goals at an affordable price."
— P.L., California resident, Class of 2014, Idaho State University, Medical Laboratory Science
"Affording my college studies in speech pathology would be difficult without my WUE scholarship. Thank you!"
— Paige, Montana resident, Class of 2016, Idaho State University, Speech Pathology
"WUE has helped me attend one of the best schools for nursing. Nursing is my dream career, and with the help of the WUE, I can make my dreams come true! "
— Jessica, Montana resident, Class of 2017, Idaho State University, Nursing
"I always had ambitions of furthering my education and participating in football after graduating from high school. Being a graduate from an Alaskan high school made it difficult to choose a school that best fit me, because out-of-state tuition was high. With the help of WUE, I was able to pick a university that fit my needs on the field and in the classroom. I’ve been given the best chance to succeed in life."
— Josh, Alaska resident, Class of 2014, Mayville State University, History Education and Physical Education
