Internet Course Exchange (ICE) | Level 2 — Academic Team

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Resources

WICHE is closely monitoring the outbreak of “SARS-CoV-2,” and the disease it causes, which has been named “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”). To inform and facilitate your response to a rapidly changing situation, WICHE has compiled the following set of resources, which will be updated as new information becomes available.

The Academic Team members may include the dean, director, department chair, and faculty from a particular school or department wishing to participate in a course or program exchange.

The Academic Team at the Enrolling Institution will:

  • Evaluate course content, outcomes, and other characteristics.

  • Determine which courses to select and schedule as local sections and determine their applicability to academic programs.

  • Arrange for special testing or student experiences, and evaluate student completion of prerequisites, as coordinated with the Teaching Institution.

  • Determine if assessment data (in addition to student’s final grade) is needed from the teaching institution.

At the Teaching Institution, this team will:

  • Create a Course Offering Plan, determining which courses they will share with other institutions, and initiate articulation agreements for those courses.

  • Develop course outcomes, establishing course levels and credits.

  • Assign faculty, according to institutional policies.

  • Market course to students.

The Academic Team will also assist with evaluating effectiveness in achieving course outcomes and sharing the evidence with enrolling institutions when requested.

  • Request seats from other collaborative partners through WICHE ICE, and create course in the institutional database with the requested number of seats (EI).

  • Request or grant seats through the WICHE ICE database (in coordination with Levels I and 2) (EI/ TI).

Each institution determines whether a course from another institution will meet its course  requirements. The registrar’s office is a good place to begin to determine if a course meets institutional requirements. If the course has never been accepted for transfer, it could go through the same committee system it would go through for transfer.

Information such as the course title and level, instructor’s name and contact information, prerequisites, and available seats can be found for each course listing in the Course Information Guide, included in the WICHE ICE Operations Manual.
