Bernice Joseph Leadership Award

The Western Alliance of Community College Academic Leaders invites nominations for the 2025 Bernice Joseph Leadership Award, celebrating innovative achievements in advancing educational access for student success. Alliance members whose innovative and impactful projects embody the vision and values of its namesake by addressing critical educational challenges and fostering a more inclusive and effective higher education environment.

Nominations are due by December 16, 2024. Winner will be notified by January 23, 2025. 

Purpose

The Bernice Joseph Leadership Award aims to recognize and celebrate the outstanding work of Alliance members who have led students to success through innovative initiatives and solutions. Named in honor of Bernice Joseph, who served as the vice chancellor of Alaska Fairbanks and was a founding member of the Alliance, was a visionary leader whose boundless energy, commitment to accessible, high-quality education and collaborative spirit were key to nurturing a culture of innovation and inclusivity.

This award honors leaders who carry forward the mission of transforming education. It offers an opportunity to spotlight transformative work that reflects the 2025 annual meeting theme, Partnerships: Stronger Together.

Help us celebrate and share the impactful, innovative work being done in higher education across the West honoring the legacy of Bernice Joseph.

Award Recognition

  • Recognition at the Academic Partnerships Annual Meeting including an invitation to speak and recognition in the printed program (registration and travel expenses up to $1,500 covered)
  • A written press release in the WICHE newsletter
  • Highlighted on the WICHE website
  • Invited to participate in a future panel webinar
