2009-2010 WAGS/ETS AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE
AND INNOVATION IN GRADUATE ADMISSIONS

The Western Association of Graduate Schools (WAGS) and Educational Testing Service (ETS) are pleased to announce the 2009-2010 WAGS/ETS Awards for Excellence and Innovation in Graduate Admissions. Presented by the GRE<sup>®</sup> and TOEFL<sup>®</sup> programs, the award will be distributed to a WAGS member school in recognition of outstanding contributions in graduate admissions practices. 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

This award recognizes excellence and innovation in graduate admissions. Any WAGS member institution or graduate program within a WAGS member institution is eligible for the award.

The purpose of the award is to encourage, recognize, and reward excellence and innovation in domestic and international graduate admissions at both the graduate school and program level. Applications may related to any facet of the admissions process, from outreach and recruitment through selection and admission, e.g.:

  • increasing the diversity of applicants to graduate programs in the STEM disciplines.
  • using technology to communicate with and attract prospective applicants in new and effective ways.
  • increasing the number of international students who seek an education at your institution.
  • demonstrating success in enhancing the quality of the entering class.

GUIDELINES FOR THE 2009-2010 WAGS/ETS AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN GRADUATE ADMISSION FOLLOW:

1. An applicant must be a member graduate school or a program at a member graduate school. No more than one graduate program at a given institution is eligible to apply. Application materials must include:

    a. An application letter from the Graduate Dean or comparable official at the institution. The letter should describe the pertinent graduate admissions innovation as well as the internal process used to select the award applicant.

    b. A document (500 - 1500 words) that describes the pertinent graduate admissions innovation and explains why it is significant.

2. All application materials must be sent to Ms. Carol Hawkes in the GRE Program at ETS via email at chawkes@ets.org no later than September 28, 2009. The subject line of the email message should be: WAGS/ETS Award for Excellence in Graduate Admission.

3. Selection will be based upon three criteria:

a. Excellence.

b. Innovation.

c. Significance.

4. The 2009-2010 award consistes of a certificate of award, a $2,500 award to the winning graduate program or school for graduate recruitment, admissions, or retention programs, and public recognition at the 2010 annual meeting of the Western Association of Graduate Schools.

5. Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges selected by the Western Association of Graduate Schools.
