A Cheatsheet for Implementing Student Services Online
It is helpful to know the entire progression of implementing student
services online (as contrasted to just online student services).
This progression is shown below and is summarized as follows:
- Form a vision team and develop your campus’ vision for student
services online.
- Determine initial student service focus and assemble a project
design and development team.
- Create a glossary of terms for student services and define the
scope, budget and timeline.
- Write scenarios and record ARIs (assumptions, requirements and
issues).
- Identify affected policies and takes steps to address them.
- Buy, build, or partner in the development of a technology solution
to support plans for new service(s).
- Test the new service with a pilot group of students.
- Form an implementation team and develop an implementation plan.
- Deploy your new service(s), gaining a yield of integrated IT
systems, simple procedures, and online services.
- Keep your institution happy with well-served students, faculty,
staff and others by upgrading the service(s) on an ongoing basis
to maintain state-of-the-art services.
