| All students need student services. For both on and off campus students,
access to these services can make the difference in a student's academic
success. Until recently campuses have struggled to provide even limited
services to off campus students. Now new technologies especially
the Internet make it possible to reach these students with a
full array of services at a time and place convenient to them. More
than that, these technologies make it possible to re-engineer services
to provide a higher level of service to all students.
Designed from the student's point of view, new services provide
one-stop integrated service, available in some cases around the
clock. Technology solutions aside, developing these services requires
a new vision, business and implementation strategies, policy and
procedural changes, and staff retraining programs whether
the new services are to serve a single institution or a multi-institutional
partnership. Then comes finding the technology solution compatible
with your existing infrastructure to support what you want to do.
In its work on the LAAP project, Beyond
the Administrative Core: Creating Web-based Student Services for
Online Learners, WCET identified consultants among its
staff and members with expertise in designing new electronic services.
These consultants, working through
Western Cooperative Consulting (WCC), assist client campuses
and collaborative ventures to plan, design, and develop their services.

you need.
