Scenario 1: Student states/explores educational goals
Goal		Student can select from available courses of study which match his/her interests and abilities
Pre-Conditions		Advisee is aware of database location for information on available courses of study. Advisor is aware of student general interest in a particular discipline

Scenario 2: Student declares major
Goal		Student receives approval to begin a course of study matched to interests & abilities
Pre-Conditions		Student meets pre-requisites concerning number of college credit hours achieved, overall GPA, major field GPA, etc. Student has reviewed requirements for completion of intended major Student has requested and been scheduled for an advising session Advisor is aware of student intentions, and has reviewed student records
Step #	Initiating or Other Actor		Advising System
1.	Advisor requests student records
2.			System provides records
3.	Advisor requests intended major requirements
4.			System provides records
5.	Advisor & student compare student’s records with major requirements
6.	Advisor approves student request for admission into major, enters appropriate data into system
7.	-or-		System receives approval data for entry into major program, updates data file accordingly
8.	Advisor rejects student request for admission into major because of detected deficiency or lack of student interest in the major after complete description by advisor, enters appropriate data into system
9.			System receives denial data for entry into major program, updates data file accordingly
10.	Advisor requests data outlining other majors
11.			System provides requested data
12.	Advisor recommends student review of alternative major fields of study
Post-Conditions		Student is approved for the declared major field of study of his/her choice, or Student is re-directed to one or more alternative fields of study more closely aligned with his/her interest/ability

Goal		Student receives approval to begin a course of study that supports his/her major and is matched to his/her interests & abilities
Pre-Conditions		Student meets pre-requisites concerning number of college credit hours achieved, overall GPA, minor field GPA, etc. Student has reviewed requirements for completion of intended minor Student has requested and been scheduled for an advising session Advisor is aware of student intentions, and has reviewed student records

Scenario 15: Student requests pre-enrollment appointment for advising for the next semester
Goal		Create course schedule with advisor for upcoming semester
Pre-Conditions		Advisor has notified student of pre-enrollment window for following semester Student has reviewed courses still needed, checked pre-requisites in advance, and looked at course schedule Student & advisor have verified appropriateness of degree plan and progress Advisor has reviewed student’s record to determine what courses are still needed Advisor has checked student’s academic progress to determine his/her status. Advisor has verified satisfactory progress with the student in his/her current semester
Step #	Initiating or Other Actor		Advising System
1.	Student calls or e-mails advisor, requests list of available advising slots
2.			System provides schedule availabilities
3.	Student selects an available slot
4.			System accepts input, updates files, sends notice of scheduled advising session to advisor
5.	Student and Advisor each are notified of scheduled appointment
Post-Conditions		Student and advisor are scheduled to meet (in person or virtually) to create a course schedule for the next semester Student builds a course schedule (repeat from Initial Interaction Scenario)
