Please come in and enjoy our Internet home, and spend some time looking though the pages and links. One of the things we at DS are trying to do is make the Web page more user friendly, and one of our ways is by telling students who need to hear what the picture is about, something about the picture, and that is what the underlined d (d) is all about.

NewA Message From Our Manager

Greetings to all! I am the new Disability Services Manager at Lane Community College. Years ago, I worked here at Disability Services and it's a pleasure to be back.

This coming year will be filled with transitions as we revise some of our forms and procedures. Our staff will be implementing many of those changes during fall term and welcome your comments to clarify what is working well for you and what isn't. We want to provide services and accommodations to students with disabilities in the most efficient and supportive way possible, so your feedback is essential to us.

During the coming year, I look forward to becoming acquainted with students and the professionals who work with them on and off campus. Please stop by Center 217 to say hello, or call (541)747-4501, ext.2150 to make an appointment or ask questions about how we can assist you.

Welcome to Disability Services at Lane Community College. In 1985, Lane was recognized as one of the top five community colleges in the nation by a national panel of experts. Today, Lane serves more than 37,500 students of all ages. The Disability Services office had over 600 studentsregistered last year (1997/1998) alone. This Internet web page is designed especially for students with disabilities who are seeking information on the Disability Services office at LCC.
For students with a disability seeking a successful college experience, the Disability Services staff suggests you browse the DS Internet page. For more specific questions or to register with the department, you need to call for an appointment. The DS Internet page contains information on documentation requirements, procedures, student responsibilities, and orientations. The reader may also view information on academic accommodations such as assistive technology, test accommodations, interpreting for the deaf, and note taking.

This Internet page also provides you information on resolving accommodation disagreements and formal ADA grievance procedures and formal grievance procedures. In addition to this information, we have included links to many other service providers of assistive software, hardware, and disability related information.

A successful transition from high school into college is important to the staff of LCC's Disability Services department. The Disability Services staff has developed unique opportunities for high school students who are transitioning into postsecondary institutions. DS offers a continuing education class each term for parents and professionals working with students under age 21 who are on an IEP or 504 Plan. In addition, the staff invites more than 50 local high school professionals working with transitioning IDEA students to bring these students to an orientation and tour of the campus. These orientations are designed with the high school student in mind and are offered several times in early spring.

Sincerely,

Leigh Alice Petty

Disability Services Coordinator
