The WICHE Mental Health program staff participated in the statewide planning process to develop a coordinated approach and infrastructure for suicide prevention in Colorado. This included analyzing data from statewide stakeholder meetings regarding the Suicide Intervention and Prevention Plan and helping to write the new plan for Colorado.
The goal of this project was to update the publication Suicide in Colorado, published in 2002. Objectives for the new prevention plan included increasing awareness; maximizing financial resources throughout the state; funding treatment for at-risk individuals; integrating suicide prevention with mental health services; providing guidance to all agencies within the state committed to suicide prevention; effectively reaching underserved populations; and developing policy recommendations for the State of Colorado.
The new plan can be downloaded from the Colorado Office of Suicide Prevention web site.
