Student and Graduate Testimonials
Here's what students and graduates are saying about WICHE's Student Exchange Programs
"Going to school out-of-state was never an option until I learned about the WUE program. I am originally from California, but wanted to go to school in a different state. WUE makes going to college more affordable, which has given me the optimism I needed to earn a college degree. Without WUE, I would have not been able to attend Northern Arizona University where I have made great connections that will allow me to pursue my dream career."
— Lane, California resident, Class of 2012, Northern Arizona University, Political Science with a minor in Biology
"I'm a student athlete, so at any time you can find me in class, practicing, traveling for competition or studying. This does not allow much time to work. WUE helped me lower the cost of my education at Idaho State University. Because I don't have to work, I can focus all my efforts on my studies. I love all the new opportunities that going to an out-of-state school has offered me. I was recently accepted into ISU's nursing program and will be starting classes this spring. Without WUE, I would have had to work and wouldn't have had as much time to focus on my academics, and may not have been accepted into their nursing program! Thank you WUE, for all you help! "
— Audrey, Washington resident, Class of 2015, Idaho State University, Nursing
"Being the oldest of three children active in sports and dance meant that going to school at home in California wouldn't be affordable without a scholarship. Thanks to WICHE's WUE, I'm able to go to a school I love for less than what I would have paid in my home state! The reduced tuition helps take some stress off of my parents and me. Without WUE, I wouldn't have the opportunities and experiences I've had over the last year and a half. I really hope that this program continues so that more students can benefit. Thanks to WUE, my future's off to a great start."
— Anna, California resident, Class of 2015, Northern Arizona University, Journalism
"The WUE program made going to an out of state school financially viable for me and my family. In high school, I knew that I wanted to attend a university outside of my home state and give myself the opportunity to have new experiences. Reaching outside of my comfort zone to go to school in Arizona was one of the best choices I made. It exposed me to new ways of thinking and to different people from different cultures. Above all however, it made me appreciate where I came from and the values and practices that are important to me. "
— Amy, California resident, Class of 2012, Northern Arizona University, International Hospitality Management
"WUE gave me the chance to study in the mainland. I lived in Hawaii all my life and thought I'd stay in Hawaii for college. When I learned about WUE, I realized that I could go to college in another state--I had many more options than I initially thought. The reduced WUE tuition was affordable, and many of my fellow students from all over the West were using WUE at NAU."
— Kristal, Hawai'i resident, Class of 2010, Northern Arizona University, Chemistry Education
"I graduated from a California high school and wanted to go to university there, but tuition costs have been sky rocketing, and I couldn't afford it. Fortunately, I enrolled at Northern Arizona University and was awarded WUE. WUE has help me tremendously financially and allowed me to stay in school. I'm putting the tuition savings towards other school-related necessities like books and rent. It's helped me reduce the amount of student loans and reduce financial pressures. WUE has brought me one step closer to my career goals and I am greatly appreciative its contribution to my success in school. If it weren't for WUE, I wouldn't be graduating in six months!"
— Khaxil, California resident, Class of 2013, Northern Arizona University, Psychology and Sociology
"I knew I didn't want to go to college in my home state because I wanted to get away and experience new things. Thanks to WUE, I was able to go to Northern Arizona where they have an excellent hotel and restaurant management program. Thanks to the WUE discount, I'm able to focus on my studies and enjoy a new home at the same time. School is more affordable because of WUE and I don't have to worry about a huge debt load when I graduate."
— Amanda, Washington resident, Class of 2016, Northern Arizona University, Hotel and Restaurant Management
"I am very thankful for receiving the WUE scholarship because I can attend a school that I wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise. By attending ISU I now have the opportunity to fulfill my dreams of becoming a nurse so I can help others in their time of need. It's also great to experience living in a different area for awhile before returning to Montana to start my career."
— Colby, Montana resident, Class of 2015, Idaho State University, Nursing
"I grew up in a rural community and wanted to go out of state for college once I graduated. I knew that without a good scholarship or some sort of luck it would not become a reality. I did some research about the programs offered through MSU Denver and stumbled upon WUE. It was a very easy to apply, and my application was approved! Without WUE, I wouldn't be able to live in the beautiful State of Colorado nor experience the awesome learning environment that the Auraria campus provides. "
— Lora, New Mexico resident, Class of 2013, Metropolitan State University of Denver, Clinical Child Psychology
"I left high school wanting to study business. I lived in California where the tuition rates of in-state schools were rising. Leaving the state was a long shot until I found out about WICHE's WUE program. It allowed me to explore universities in other states at the same cost (or even lower!) than some institutions at home. I have thrived here at NAU, majoring in business management. I would not be where I am today without WICHE. Thank you!"
— Gabriel, California resident, Class of 2014, Northern Arizona University, Business Management
"WUE has been such an amazing gift and has made enrolling in the exercise science program at Northern Arizona University affordable. Many of my classmates have received the WUE award as well. I love going to college out of state and don't have to pay outrageous tuition bills. I wouldn't be able to attend school out of state without WUE, and am so thankful for it!"
— Cassandra, Alaska resident, Class of 2016, Northern Arizona University, Exercise Science
"I am from Anchorage, Alaska. I wanted to to experience living and studying out of state, but couldn't afford nonresident tuition. The WUE discount made it all possible. I learned and grew so much as a person from living in a new environment and attending Northern Arizona University. I am so grateful for WICHE’s Western Undergraduate Exchange!"
— Alyssa, Alaska resident, Class of 2011, Northern Arizona University , Finance
"WUE made it affordable for my family to help pay for my education. It made attending NAU possible, because I could go out of state at minimal cost. Thank you WUE, I could not have graduated if I weren't for this program!"
— Alex, Washington resident, Class of 2009, Northern Arizona , Environmental Science/Management
"I grew up in California and enjoyed living there, but when it came time for college I wanted to move to a new state and experience life elsewhere. I ended up at NAU in Flagstaff, Arizona. WUE was the only reason I was able to afford studying out of state. Thanks to WUE I now hold a B.S. in psychology and sociology and plan to earn a master's in the future. I greatly appreciate the assistance offered through WUE and I know my college experience would have been vastly different if the program didn't exist."
— Emily, California resident, Class of 2012, Northern Arizona University, Psychology and Sociology
"Thanks to WUE, my dream to go to college out of state became achievable. Coming from a low income family, going to college at all was a stretch, let alone the university of my dreams! "
