Raymund A. Paredes (Texas) is the commissioner of higher education for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. From 1998 to 2000, Paredes was special assistant to the president of the University of California system, where he focused on outreach efforts to improve access to higher education for students from educationally disadvantaged communities. He served as associate vice chancellor of academic development for 10 years at the University of California, Los Angeles. Paredes was vice president for programs at the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and director of creativity and culture at The Rockefeller Foundation. He currently serves on the board of trustees of Mercy College in New York and is a board member of the Texas Cultural Trust.
