• The United States Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) recently invited the WICHE MHP to submit a proposal for an intervention study to develop a military mental health education program for National Guard communities, and pilot test the program in select Kansas Army National Guard communities. The goal of the project is to determine whether a mental health education program, specifically adapted for military communities, will increase the early identification and treatment of mental health problems in military personnel.
  • The WICHE Mental Health Program partnered with the Citizen Soldier Program to train health and behavioral health professionals how to better serve military clients, especially those National Guard members returning from service to rural areas. In addition, staff members will be developing a training program for community members - to help them identify developing mental health problems in, handle mental health crises among, and refer to professionals, servicemen and women who may be experiencing a mental health problem.
  • As part of WICHE's webinar series, the mental health department partnered with the National Center for Mental Health Promotion and Youth Violence Prevention, National TA Center for Children's Mental Health, and the Technical Assistance Partnership to produce a webinar intended to provide basic information to viewers to help them understand how to better serve their rural veterans and guardsmen.
