Steering Board

The Steering Board is the policy-making body of WICHE ICE. Collectively, it sets the annual membership dues, determines the wholesale prices for the exchange of courses, develops policies and approves changes to the Operations Manual and the Memorandum of Agreement, seeks and supports collaborative initiatives, and approves the annual ICE work plan. The Steering Board operates within the parameters of the WICHE Commission which has fiscal responsibility for ICE.

Roles and Responsibilities of Steering Board Members

Each member selects one individual to act as its official representative to WICHE ICE by serving on the Steering Board.  These leaders—usually vice provosts, deans, and directors—have a good   understanding of online learning and the role ICE can play in furthering cost-effective access to higher education for their students.  Members can change their Steering Board representative at any time by notifying the WICHE ICE director.

Specific responsibilities of the individual representative include:

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for receiving and responding to official correspondence from WICHE ICE staff, the Executive Committee, and other members of the Steering Board.
  • Attends the annual meeting and conference calls requested by the Chair to discuss ICE business and activities. Casts the single vote on behalf of his/her campus or organization on matters before the Board.
  • Regularly informs and educates academic leaders and other member staff about the many advantages of ICE, how it works, and ways to include it in their strategic plan. Serves as the key contact for soliciting and supplying participants to be involved in WICHE ICE collaborative initiatives and related grants or other funding opportunities. Provides direction and support to their ICE PIC (Program Information Coordinator) in identifying specific needs to be addressed through ICE as well as resources to be shared.
