There are likely more than two million college students whose mental disorders go untreated in any given year. Most college students with mental disorders do not receive treatment, and over 80% of those who die by suicide have never made contact with campus mental health services. Knowledge, stigma, and other health beliefs represent significant barriers to help-seeking for many of these students. Identifying an effective intervention to reach these students has the potential to have a major impact on the health of this large group of people during the college years, and beyond. Given the connection between mental health, physical health, and educational success, an effective intervention would have broader societal effects on both the mental and physical wellbeing of individuals in the United States, as well as on their economic productivity.
