Accessibility Statement for the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education

We want everyone who visits the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education website to feel welcome and find the experience rewarding.

What are we doing?

To help us make the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education website a positive place for everyone, we've been using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.

The guidelines have three levels of accessibility (A, AA and AAA). We’ve chosen Level AA as the target for the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education website.

How Is WICHE.edu Tested for Accessibility?

As part of the development process and ongoing website maintenance, the WICHE web team tests the site using the following automated tools: the W3C HTML Validator; WAVE by WebAIM and the Color Contrast Analyzer.

How are we doing?

We're working hard to achieve our goal of Level AA accessibility, but we realize there are some areas that still need improving. The following information explains what we're doing to make that happen.

Exceptions

WICHE.edu strives to adhere to the accepted guidelines and accessibility and usability standards. However, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website.

When text is resized using browser options the main navigation becomes difficult to use.  This issue will be addressed in the next version of the WICHE website. This issue can be mitigated by simply resizing your browser window directly. When enlarged in this fashion the main navigation is replaced by the same navigation used on mobile devices.

Video and audio content is not WICHE's primary means of presenting information; therefore the use of video and audio is limited on the site. Video usage on wiche.edu typically consists of archived presentations and webinars. Closed captioning this legacy video and audio content will be provided on request; as will video audio descriptions. New video and audio content will have closed captioning and audio descriptions provided within one week to 10 days of publication.

Links are currently being reviewed; older pages may have nondescriptive link text. This issue will be resolved in the next version of the WICHE website.

WICHE has an extensive library of legacy PDF (Portable Document Format) publications. Due to technical and logistical issues, these documents have not been remediated for accessibility, or are they yet available in alternative format. WICHE staff is currently prioritizing legacy publications for remediation and a plan is in place. WICHE staff will, however, provide remediated versions or alternative formats on demand. Please fill out this form to request an accessible version of a legacy WICHE publication:  Request Accessible Version of Legacy WICHE Publication
