Colorado's 50th Anniversary Resolution Day
On April 21, 2003, the Colorado General Assembly introduced a resolution
commending WICHE's contributions to higher education in the state
and region. The resolution passed in the House on the same day,
and in the Senate on April 22, 2003. View
a copy of the joint resolution.
House cosponsors included Rep. Nancy Spence (chair of the House
Education Committee, and a member of WICHE's Legislative Advisory
Committee), and Reps. Bob Briggs, Bob McCluskey, Angie Paccione,
and John Salazar.
Sen. Ron Teck sponsored the resolution in the Senate, along with
Sen. Peggy Reeves. Sen. Teck serves on WICHE's LAC. Sen Reeves is
a long-time member of WICHE's Veterinary Medicine Advisory Council.
Support fees generated by WICHE's professional student exchange
program fund a significant proportion (currently 32 percent) of
the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biological Sciences at Colorado
State University, and a significant portion of the cost of expanding
the CSU veterinary hospital was paid by WICHE states through their
support fees.
WICHE executive director David Longanecker attended the introduction
of the resolution in the House, and a celebratory lunch followed.
Attendees also included Rep. Keith King (House majority leader);
WICHE Commissioners Bill Kuepper (senior policy advisor, CCHE) and
Tim Foster (executive director, CCHE); Kathi Williams (governmental
relations officer, CCHE); Rep. Don Lee (vice chair, House Education
Committee); Rep. Lynn Hefley (member, House Education Committee);
Rep. Suzanne Williams (member, House Education Commitee); and Rep.
Buffy McFayden (whose district includes the University of Southern
Colorado, which participates in WICHE's Western Undergraduate Exchange).
