Welcome from the Director, Dennis Mohatt

Greetings! It is my pleasure to introduce this monthly newsletter, WICHE Mental Health Report. This report will serve as a forum to demonstrate to our readers who we are, what we do and what we are capable of doing.

Each member of our readership has unique concerns and issues. By addressing these, we hope to ensure that every issue of this newsletter contains information that is helpful and informative to our broad constituency.

This newsletter is intended to be an invitation to contact us with your comments, questions, and ideas. It is intended to be our link to YOU!

Painting a Broad WICHE Portrait

A collaborative venture of 15 western states, the WICHE Mental Health Program is a technical assistance and evaluation center, with a half-century of expertise in responding to behavioral health issues, disseminating best practices in mental health, and supporting public behavioral health systems through program evaluation, clinical performance measurement, and data driven decision support. The mission of the WICHE Mental Health< program is twofold: 1) to assist states in improving systems of care for mental health consumers and their families; and 2) to advance the preparation of a qualified mental health workforce in the West.

WICHE is a recognized leader in rural and frontier mental health, cultural competence, and telemedicine/web-based health. We collaborate with mental health administrators, educators, and practitioners to improve services, training, and research in public mental health and work with member States on various initiatives based on their needs (e.g., program evaluation, workforce development, training, technical assistance, etc). WICHE’s role as a liaison between different systems demonstrates the ability to work with diverse people, organizations, and communities.
